The Panama Canal Expansion is Almost Complete.

The Panama Canal Authority says that the expansion should be open for business as planned. Yes there have been some setbacks like the recent leaks at the Cocoli locks which sparked plenty of controversy. The good news is that we are being told that the repairs will be completed in time for the 2016 opening.

Panama is Optimistic
The country as a whole is optimistic that the Panama Canal Expansion will be ready to go in 2016. We are all waiting patiently to hear the news about the extent of the damage. Panama Canal Administrator Jorge Luis Quijano said, “We aim for the best quality. We won’t accept low-quality repairs. This is a new lockhead, and we expect it to work properly. We aim for a lifespan of 100 years.” We all know the original Panama Canal built by the US Army Corp of Engineers made it to 100 years and is operating to this day. Let’s cross our fingers that the expansion can live up to this achievement.
